How wide do I make the UQ?

I just bought a ENO single. if I like hanging I am going but a Blackbird for campin. I borrowed a sewing machine to make tree straps. I want to covert an old sleeping bag to UQ while I have the machine. Question is what to I cut the bag down to? Weight is not an issue. I will prob make it the length of the hammock. But need some help with the width..?

Weight is an issue, because you're going to hang this quilt with shock cord, and you don't want it sagging.

I would try ~48" at the head end, and perhaps 40" at the feet. 72" is more than enough length, especially if you use a pillow.

    Hey,
If weight/size isn't an issue, then I'd reccomend you keep it as wide as possible. I have a Wallmart bag that I modified to be a UQ, and I found that because it was so wide, it worked kinda like a pod, which made it very warm! I think it was about 4ft wide. That would be my reccomedation, but I think it also depends on how warm you want it to be.
    Hope that helps!

I am in Texas so the coldest it will get is 30 - 40 degrees. That's my cut off anyway.

If I unzip it and cut the bag in half, I will have two 32x75's.

If weight isn't an issue, then why cut it at all? If you want to personalize it, check yourself with a measuring tape and see what your numbers look like, give yourself extra and you should be fine.
