Take your kids camping!

Well, since my oldest is going to get to go to the Reelfoot hang in a few weeks, my 4yr old wanted to go with just me. She was content on going to my dad's field which has 6 acres of thick woods. I took a break from behind my thread injector and took her Friday night.

I thought she rolled around a lot when in out bed. Dang, DON'T let her sleep in your hammock.LOL She did great other than that. I needed the time away too.

On one hand I can't wait till she gets older and can go to some camps. On the other, I want to keep her where she's at. Taking your kids camping puts a lot in perspective. If you haven't done it in a while go ASAP!

I brought my oldest son (7) out for two nights of hammock camping two weeks ago during his spring break. It was a blast! I bought a Traveler specifically for that trip and he did great. We had planned on heading up to Mt Charleston but the weather got crazy and I didn't want to ruin his fun with sub-freezing temps to deal with so we went to Valley of Fire State Park instead. Really glad we did too. The weather was perfect and there was about 80% illumination at night with no cloud cover. I picked a couple of those Waterford Press pocket field guides, the Night Sky and Animal Tracks. The night sky one along with the Star Walk app on my phone was a lot of fun and he was able to identify the north star and big and little dippers on his own after that. Headlamps and chem lites added to the fun too. We went on a three-mile night hike and the moon was bright enough that we didn't even need our headlamps.

My son did not think the coyotes yelping in the distance was as cool as I did

Found a few animal tracks during the day too and used the field guide to identify them.

There are some pretty cool petroglyphs out there as well.

He brought his camera and notepad with him just about everywhere we went....and he wrote a nice report on our trip that he was proud to share with mom and his class (first grade) when he got back to school last week.

Great times! Not sure which one of us had more fun though

Getting my kids set up atm. Got the hammocks just need bug net and tarp for this summer.

Both of our girls have been camping with us since before they could walk (they're 14 and 18 now). Mostly car samping until recently. And not long after I got a hammock I found myself buying 2 more...then making tarps and top quilts and underquilts and, and, and... And we've all had a blast.

Yeah, definitely take your kids camping...you'll be glad you did.

We've taken our 2 kids since they were infants. Took them hiking and primitive camping in Big Bend when they were 4 and 8 as well. Now that they are older (8 and 12 ) they can carry some of the load ... lol.

I am taking both of our girls Friday night. They are very excited to sleep in there own hammocks next to Dad.
