    Toxoway Vs Macat Ultra

I helped my work buddy Montalban dial in some new gear today and we did a comparison of his tarp & mine. He recently bought the Toxoway tarp that Arrowhead Equipment has on sale for $95.00 in the stealth brown color that is really sweet!

Here's my Macat on top of his Toxoway. They have the same 12 Ft ridge line but the sides are significantly different! I like the extra coverage for the sides and the color is stealthier than mine. I'm really wanting one now!

While we were at it we dialed in his new 20* 3/4 UQ from Wilderness Logics too.

He's happy to finally have all his gear bought with his overtime money we've all been making. But now wants time off to use it!

Think Montalban's kit will fit in a Circuit!
That extra side coverage on the tarp sure sticks out and you're right about the color. That price is nice too. Wilderness Logics and AHE are two companies that are always a pleasure to deal with.
    Excellent photos too Cakes

Maybe not a Circuit but possibly a Catalyst. His kit is getting smaller though! I've helped him with stoves (made him an alkie set), smaller tarp lines (ordered ridge line kit by Dutch). And got the 3/4 UQ. That tarp isn't the smallest but him & his daughter both could hang under there so it's pretty compact for that. The only thing left really is to update his pack. I suggested ULA or Golite against a 3.5 lb pack Mahoney's tried to talk him into. Maybe you can show him a few of yours.

That's a very nice looking tarp. I have a BWWD with like 7-8 ft sides and in winter being able to stand up under your tarp and have it come down to the ground is really nice. Seals up very nicely when the doors are shut and really provides a lot of coverage. Hope your friend enjoys his new gear and we get to meet him one day when you bring him to a hang with ya.

Yes long sides are important for winter! If I could get doors for the Toxoway I'd bite before next winter. Did I mention how much I like the color!?

Cakes, off your head do you know what is the weight difference is between the 2 tarps?

    From the websites:
    Macat Ultra 15.4 oz.
    Toxoway 14 oz.

interesting that the larger tarp weighs less than the smaller tarp

OEM tarps including McCats are described at the home page as having evolved and been re-engineered to be lighter.

It would be interesting to use photos already here to compare construction of different tarps.

JRB, for example, describes their hems as sewn to save weight, without loss of function in paying attention to hem construction. Etowah makes or made their tarps with the absolute minimum of additional weight short of bare hot-cutting of the edges.

Handsome and sturdy as some ridgeline tie outs are, I can wonder if the robustness and weight isn't from commercial or military pedigree, expecting constant use, heavier tarp fabric, and complete intolerance of failure under those conditions.

I think it's all that gross grain Brian hems his tarp with and has beefier reinforcements on the pull outs and plastic D Rings.
Paul's is simple rolled edge with just gross grain pull outs, reinforced well though.
