    Pipe stand help

I'm thinking about using threaded pipe as a "second tree". Pardon the horrible sketch:

    Can anyone suggest:

    1. A proper length for C and the B's (if A is about 7' tall)
    2. If I even need the D's
    3. If this even looks like a good idea I don't want to be bouncing all night

You are still going to need some line and stakes to keep that size from tipping. Just my $.02

I'd be leery over time from fatigue at the bottom of the pole. I've worked with pipe stands all my life helping my dad in a welding shop. For B to have any effect, they will need to be extremely long.(at least as long as the height you will be hanging your hammock from. If you guy it off as suggested by raiffnuke, you shouldn't need them at all.
    It'll be alright Friday!

B would probably have to be about half as long as the distance to the tree, and would still have a good deal of stress on it. Another option would be to eliminate B and D. Make a second stand and connect the tops of both A's. You wouldn't need a tree then. Oldgringo made something similar a while back. http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ighlight=stand You can use threaded pipe instead of welding.

Like they said above, stake out A .... Or add pipes from A to B and again from A to the other B.

Looks like a good application for the "boom stakes".

    My 2 cents...:
Take both BDs and A, split the difference of C evenly to add to the lenght of all three, and make a Tripod. Stake out a guy line for stability.
    Just a thought...
