As per Cakes' request, here are pics of my bipods. They are connected by a fixed length (12') continuous ridgeline, and guyed out by single ratchet straps on each end. Inclining the bipods away from the hammock transfers the load from the guylines/stakes to the legs of the pods. In a similar vein, longer straps will result in a more horizontal load on the stakes, and they will hold better.



Here is a detail of the top of one bipod. Each leg is ~6.5' long, and is made from 1.5" tubing left over from building a greenhouse. 2x4s would work just as well. Visible is a Prusik loop and marlinspike for attaching a tarp.



There is such a thing as eye nuts, but they are hard to find, and breathtakingly expensive. I made these with links of chain. The eyebolts are 3/8", and I welded the eyes closed.
