    No Tree/One Tree Hang w/Bipod(s)

As per Cakes' request, here are pics of my bipods. They are connected by a fixed length (12') continuous ridgeline, and guyed out by single ratchet straps on each end. Inclining the bipods away from the hammock transfers the load from the guylines/stakes to the legs of the pods. In a similar vein, longer straps will result in a more horizontal load on the stakes, and they will hold better.

Here is a detail of the top of one bipod. Each leg is ~6.5' long, and is made from 1.5" tubing left over from building a greenhouse. 2x4s would work just as well. Visible is a Prusik loop and marlinspike for attaching a tarp.

There is such a thing as eye nuts, but they are hard to find, and breathtakingly expensive. I made these with links of chain. The eyebolts are 3/8", and I welded the eyes closed.

Looks good. It looks like you used one inch ratchet straps. Do you have any problem with them stretching when loaded?

No, it's the same stuff I use for my hammock suspensions.

Oldgringo, I missed what the straps are going to ground with? I'm thinking big auger screws like to hold down trailers?

That would work. I'm using 24"x3/8" rebar pins.

I cobbed a few tent stakes for 4 wheel driving in Colorado when you don't have trees to winch to,,,they are about 2.5 ft long and half inch steel..some are 3' and almost immovable when you drive them in the ground with a sledge hammer..they would work as well if you ever run across them. All tent companies have them. just a thought.
