I used to think the HH tree straps were too short so I bought some eight-footers. In practice, I found 8 footers were overkill for my area and have gone back to the shorter HH straps. They work real nice with a Whoopie sling and Dutch Whoopie hooks.

If you want some longer straps, Paul at Arrowhead Equip has plenty of options to choose from, and even sews the loops in for ya.

I have been using my stock straps by just pulling one end through the loop but I also use a caribiner and 2 decending rings to do a garda hitch. Takes me about 2 minutes to get my hammock up, but another 5 minutes to setup my hex fly (mostly due to being a perfectionist). I ordered some 7" straps from Paul @ AHE as a backup and they are top notch. The Jarbidge UQ they make has proven to be an essential piece of equipment for my setup.
