Howdy,
I've been posting here and there, but I haven't officially introduced myself.
I am a scouter, a father to 2 young kids and enjoy the great outdoors. While attending Woodbadge II training a few weekends ago, some of the leaders were hanging (it was a cold weekend and most of the hangers didn't make it thru the night) - I tried out the hammock in the daylight and was hooked.
These leaders were ill prepared, no UQs and using sleeping bags. I googled camping hammocks, found buchcraftusa and got pointed here. I spent hours going thru the forums, reading and learning.
The bug was caught - I pulled the trigger and bought a DangerBird from PapaSmurf (Randy) as an All-in-one solution to my hammock needs. I also ordered a bunch of material from Scott (DIYGear) in order to build an UQ and tarp (I've been in the process of refamiliarization with my ancient White Rotary - a garbage find that just needed a little TLC)
The quality of the information on this site is amazing and I had no qualms about forking over some $$$ as a donation. This is such a friendly place. My next mission is to convert the scouts over to hangers instead of grounders.
