I've got 10m (32ft) of amsteel... What length do I make my whoopies!
I've read 3 ft whoopies (6ft length)
or
5 ft whoopie (10ft length)
or even a 6ft whoopie/12ft length
Whut!

The most common length is 6ft whoopies. Start with 13ft of cord for each. The extra foot will be used in the buries and backsplices if you follow the recommended bury lengths.

It tends to be what i use - 6 Foot. I tend to start out with either 12' or 12.5' (if i'm rounding!).

Yeah I have the standard 6 foot ones but somtime do wish I had some extra...
Maybe I am an oddball but I usually use 6 to 8 feet of amsteel/dynaglide to make whoopies. For my trees at home I usually have about 3 feet of unused tail. Out in the woods I have not had any trouble yet.
I'm not much of a trend-setter, but my Whoopies are only 3 or 4 foot finished. I use a combination of strap length and whoopie sling to bridge the gap. I'm doing less and less 15' spans and more an more 12 and 13 spans, so I don't need really long suspension lines.

I've got the sort of standard 6' whoopies, but the last couple of times of hanging out I've had to remove the continuous loop/soft shackle to get short enough to work. Trees, especially the ones it seems you want to hang from, have a wide variety of spacing--flexibility is the key. Yes, I could have gotten by with shorter whoopies in the woods these last two times, but I need just about all of the length to hang between the two willow oaks in my yard. Same with straps--at home I'm at the very limit of six foot straps, but I've had plenty left over in the woods.
I also made some pairs of regular, by-the-book, 6' whoopies, but if/when I make new ones, I'll make them waaay shorter for my regular places.
