Fell asleep for the third time "testing" my hammock at a local park. Rolled over and BLAM on the ground! Glad I came on here and people said to keep low to the ground while hanging! I was able to put my hands out to stop the fall but what if I was in a sleeping bag? Heh, now I know why you guys like TQ's! I am restless sleeper and so this could be a deal breaker here.
Anyway, is this common?

Do you have a spreader bar? That would raise the center of gravity to the point you could fall out.
Or if it is too narrow.
Could also be the way it's hung too. If it's too tight you could roll out.
I used to sleep in a Mayan style hammock every night and I'm a restless sleeper. Never once fell out. Never had an issue with any other hammock either, but I do like them a little large. More comfy that way.

Falling out. Only when getting into it in the dark in the middle of the night & I didn't grab the back of it. I grabbed the UQ, instead of the far side of the hammock. I crashed out the back.
The only way that you might fall out would be if you had a spreader bar hammock or if you had the hanging lines waaaay too taut. If you get a good 30 degree angle coming off the tree, the hammock should wrap around you on a gathered end hammock.
I have frequently fallen out of my cheap, narrow, net hammock. I've put a sleeping bag in it, too, and that's a sure recipe to land on my butt. I have also successfully spent the night in a similar hammock. I just accept the fact that there's some trial and error when it comes to sleeping in that hammock. After having spent some time in a camping hammock, I wonder if I just string it too tight. However I don't know if it's even possible to fall out of my Hennessy.
Well, It seems I've done the impossible once again!I have a DD Travel Hammock. I replaced the stock suspension with some new straps and whoopies, but other than that it's stock. I was sleeping with it turned upside down so the net was was on the bottom. I would say it was not too tight either as suggested, but it certainly was not loose by any means. Not sure why I fell out but I NEVER sleep during the day, so 3 times in a hammock during the day and 3 times falling asleep means I'm not giving up yet! Maybe a ridgeline set to the right spot would help?
Sounds like it's strung too tight... A looser hammock and a diagonal lay might be your answer...

I have a DD Traveler as well. DD tends to instruct a tight suspension instead of the 30* sag, but a lot of hangers find that more sag is more comfy. It would also give a deeper center of gravity. Sleeping with the bugnet could help, but you should be able to stay inside without.
