    Hammocks and Geocaching

Any of you hammock hanging people like to geocache while you are out on the trail? I love to find a nice campground and go find near geocaches.

I haven't but have always wanted to try it. Sounds like a lot of fun.

What are the basic tools you need for "beginning" Geocaching? I'd like to get into it, but don't know much about it.

All you need is a GPS.

True you need some type of GPS. I use a garmin 60csx and it works well for me. You can get some cheaper ones that work too. After that you sign up for a free account on www.geocaching.com, put in your address or a landmark or place you want to find caches at and it brings up all the ones around. It automatically downloads the cache to your GPS and you try to find it. Lots of fun and for me it gives a reason to get out or a purpose to my hike other than just to hike

I agree with headchange4u that we need some hammock related caches

Another comment because I see on another thread a lot of people like to canoe/kayak there are some cool geocaches that you have to paddle too

I used to geocache all the time, but I haven't done it in a while.

I always thought it would be fun to do some geocacheing at a hang out. People donate a few items of hammock related gear, someone would go out and hide them and then others would use the GPS to go out and find the prizes.

    Thumbs up fun

Geocaching is a great way to get out from behind the keyboard, get some exercise.
I have found some really interesting local parks and trails that I would have missed otherwise.
I like the idea of combining a hunt with a hang

I love caching. I've taken to carrying my hammock on longer cache hikes now. It's great to see the jealous looks from my fellow cachers when we stop for lunch and I take a nap.
