I went there on a road trip from MN last month. Beautiful park but extremely busy on the weekend. People everywhere around the falls.

True! The falls are where everyone heads to. It is an interesting area and has a lot of history with the falls, both good and bad. If you hear the sirens go off, GET OFF THE FALLS. A few people have lost their lives, in a flash flood, getting cut off, then swept away.

The primitive camp spots are quiet a bit more secluded, especially over night. There are a lot of day hikers on the trails during the day, but most clear out at dark. It's a bummer that they do no allow dogs in the primative areas after dark. The trees are a bit more challenging but hanging a hammock can certainly be accomplished. I may be headed there in a couple weeks for an over nighter, if not Enchanted Rock SP.
We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869
