First overnight hang - test

Well, my WBBB and BMJ is all set up in my back yard. I never thought it would fit in the wooded area but it does! I had to trim a few trees and cut a few half-dead saplings out which I didn't want to do, but it's a perfect fit now.

Supposed to be mid-upper 30s, 15mph wind, rain just ended so it will be a damp night. I set it up in the dark and rain quickly with no issues...baptism by fire!

I have NO idea what to wear as I'm new to hammocking, so I think I'll start with silkweight long underwear top/bottoms and some midweight socks. I'll put my Capilene 4 top, down booties and wool cap in the shelf area just in case.

I wish I had a back yard to hang in. Alas, it is still too cold here in Canada for me to hang outside, but it's getting warmer! I'll hang indoors for now...

Well, I just woke up after a nice 8hr sleep. Success! I had silkweight long underwear, synthetic socks, wool/acrylic cap, Marmot 30° Never Winter bag and the 40° Incubator UQ. I checked the temp a few times overnight and it was pretty much a constant 39° and breezy - couldn't have been any better for testing the Incubator!

The rain stopped right after setting up, of course, but needed the tarp anyway from the wet trees dripping. After getting in and comfortable, I think I was sleeping within 10 minutes. Everything went really well.

A few points after my first sleep:

- I'm not a back sleeper at all, so this will take some getting used to. Couldn't sleep on side since my hip, elbow and shoulder put too much pressure and would have gotten cold.

- NO condensation all over my bag near my face like every other time in a tent! I love it!

- BMJ tarp is awesome! Probably the reason for no condensation, nice airflow/great coverage

- My sleeping bag performed like a champ. Started out using it as a TQ (bottom 14" or so doesn't have the zipper so that worked great). Later on I zipped up and cinched the hood; at this point, I was REALLY sleeping well. The only reason for me to get a TQ would be for less bulk...I'll think about it.

- I nailed the clothing at this temp. Didn't come close to getting cold, but next time I think I'll wear something a little thicker or loose fitting for comform

- 40° Incubator...I love it! I think I got it dialed in 95%. When my feet are in the footbox, it provides full coverage past my toes, but I still think I slept better for the couple hours I was straight in the hammock due to a better seal. I don't think the triangles or shock cord would be necessary, becuase the fit looks perfect either way.

- I love Tarp Flyz!! Threw that BMJ up in the rain in no time

- $4 green plastic tarp cut to size was great as a ground cloth

- WBBB shelf immediately became a necessity IMO

I think I'll try it again tonight, or even Sunday night where it will be 32°. I really want to push this UQ! I may also have a couple questions and will post them in a separate thread.

I forgot two quick points:

1. I'm an idiot and forgot to take off my warbonnet carabiners on the last hammock I sold. So I used some $1.99/2-pack biners from walmart that I keep in my kayak. Held just fine even with a lot of moving around. I'll replace with some better ones just to be safe.

2. I totally forgot about my STLs or shockcord loops I was going to utilize. After all the time and research I put into these, I feel they are 100000000% unnecessary! No sag whatsoever, even after a soggy night. KISS...gotta love it!

man it's great to hear you had a great sleep in the hammock. the best part is the more you do it the better it gets. You will be able to find the most comfortable sleeping posisitons that you won't ever be able to do in a flat bed. Happy Hanging
