    Where to get a Chinook?

Hey guys! I'm in the market for a tarp. I've been looking at the Chinooks for a while, but the prices keep changing all over the place. Does anyone know a good source for these?

Also, my wife and I want to share a tarp. Should we get the 14'x12'? We have and HH explorer and an HH Scout. Thanks in advance!

14x12 is a huge tarp, but if weight is not an issue, it should serve you well. There's a good chance you'll have to sew some webbing loops on to make it do what you need it to do, but that's a minor thing.

Chinooks are strange, in that there is an ebb and flow to their availability. You can shop price, or you can shop availability, but only occasionally will you hit both.

    Kelty Noah 12

The Noah 12 is big enough for two people. I carried one on a solo trip a while back and use it on the beach now for the family.

The Chinook is more rectangular than the Noah tarps. I have both and if I were going to hang two hammocks under one tarp I'd use my Chinook. The 12X9.6 will work fine. I ordered it from Man Venture Outpost for around 35 bucks. But they have the 14x12 too if you really want to go big.

I just got a 12 X 9.6 Chinook from fedtacticaldirect.com last week. They have 5 in Tan and 1 in Green right now. Out of stock in the larger one, though. Best price I could find on them there. I also ordered on a Friday and got it on Monday or Tuesday. You'd probably want that larger one to share, though the one I got is very ample for a single hanger. Nice tarp, especially for the price

I had one in my amazon cart while I was trying to make up my mind it went from $35 shipped to $43 shipped. Good thing I bought a guide gear from a member while I was trying to make up my mind.

Chinook 12' x 14' for the door effect

I recently bought a 12 x 14 Chinook with the thought of being able to pull the ends in toward the center as doors or ends. I'm thinking I will roll the ends and sew in a channel to run some elastic cord so I can pull them back to come & go and they will snap shut behind me.

I haven't started that project yet...just kind of worked it out in my mind. I'm thinking it should hang so it can have a slight overlap at the ends and then stake the ends of the "doors" so they are overlaping. Maybe even a couple of brightly colored butterfly tabs (maybe some glow in the dark stuff for mid-nite potty trips?) sewn in the middle of the door edges to grab from either side? Pull the doors apart, walk thru and let 'em fly! BOING-SHUT.

Thanks a lot, guys. I especially appreciate the site references. The only places I've found the 14 x 12 in stock are over $70. I'm still looking, but I think I'll be getting the 12 x 9.6.
