    Rib Mountain Hike and Hang

RBDodger and I took 19 of our scouts and a couple other leaders to Rib Mountain this weekend. There were 7 hangers in the group which is awesome. They boys have new GPS units to try out. so we dropped them around the state park and they made their way up and over the mountain.

When they got back they found a scouter's old tomahawk target and well...some Mom's just arent' going to like this, but this is what happens.

It was suppose to be cold and rainy all weekend. It never did rain, we had blue skies and mild temps. The boys used homemade twig stoves and Jet boils to make their meals on Saturday's trail time. Friday and Sunday we base camp cooking and a great way to get together for some bushcraftin' and story tellin'

There are a mess of trails up in the park, and there is nothing like a lunch with a view.

Good to see the younger ones out and enjoying themselves like that. Congrats to you for getting them out there. Trips like that is what gets them envolved and they want soon forget that weekend. Glad you had good weather.

Those were some of the more fun Scouting camping trips that I remember ... tomahawk throwing and blackpowder shoots. Can't beat days like those.

Hey FD, saw the photos and was wondering if you got a fire going with the bow and drill? Looks like it was a great campout with them young axe tossers.

Holy Cow...I have fire pics for you, and I haven't sent them yet. I will do that. (make myself a note now)

They got a lot of good smoke but not enough patience to see it through...still a great energy burner though. RBDodger says you don't need a fire if you work the bow long enough it warms you up...lol

Man, why do y'all have to rub it in?

Glad you had a good time, I have maybe a month left before hiking/camping this summer gets too hot...

For a cheesehead who has lived outside of the great nort'woods for 21 years I sure do miss the place... Especially the area northwest of Tomahawk...
I am retiring in less than a year so we'll see...
