And can I assume a sleeping bag tossed in would serve the same purpose as a quilt while I'm getting started?

    Thanks!

If it stays reasonable ( above 50) the skinny pad will proly do.... below that you 'll need wings, stuff gear or a UQ.

Thanks for all the feedback. Right now looking at the Skeeter Beeter. Dirt cheap and all I'll need is a tarp.... Then if I like it - I can upgrade...

I have the Skeeter Beeter Pro and love the lay of this hammock. I did add spreader bars on the netting to spread the nettind open a little more and works great. I did a test hang in it last week in my backyard and slept with a half inflated self-inflating pad and a thin blanket and was warm, but it was also 76* that night and humid.

Alright - I've settled on a Skeeter Beeter Pro. Now I'm looking for a cheap tarp - any suggestions? I've found some reference to Sportsman's Guide - any other good solutions?

Hoping to get this in the next week or so in order to setup and experiment before my trip in August.

    Thanks again,
    Jim

Wally world cheapo tarp is probably your cheapest route, though its not the lightest or smallest of tarps. If you decide you like the hammock for camping, you could always upgrade.

I have the SG Camo(no longer available & a HH HEX(not sil nylon). Keep an eye out( i hope you dont have a glass eye and think I am being funny) on the 4 sale section here. Some good prices on tarps have been popping up lately.
