The "Floating Bed" is so ridiculously awesome...

I posted about this elsewhere, in a much older thread that someone was looking for a "bedroom setup".

But this Floating Bed deserves a thread or three of its own.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9UsNl5spBA

    http://www.vidoevo.com/yvideo.php?i=...r-home-edition

    THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!!

I've got a hammock stand in my room, and it's best with a spreader bar or bridge setup. I'm currently using a hammock that was intended to be bridge hammock.. without the spreader bars. So it's really not all that comfortable for something that I sleep on so frequently. Better than a bed, but re-incorporating the spreader bars could help a lot.

    ANYWAY....

This Floating Bed overcomes any shortcomings of a stand, like mine, with two endpoints.

It allows multiple people, 3 or 4, to fit comfortably on the same "platform"... and all experience the same "rock". One thing I hate about my setup is that two people can fit in my hammock, but not comfortably. This thing is like a spreader bar hammock designed for a ***** house... maybe even a crack ***** house. This thing is soo awesome.

    Flat, like a cot.
Rock, like a hammock from heaven.

Worth $3000+??? I think they're looking at the max end of what I'd consider to be valuable. Considering the legs don't actually come with the already greater than $3000 "base", I'd say that it's not actually worth it.

It'll take me a while to figure out how to build one as cheaply as possible, but I'll do it. And enjoy my 1-person only hammock until then.

The price is the only thing that's preventing more videos out on the internet, and on forums like this one.

But, man... An immitation Floating Bed is likely just as good as the real one.

Not sure if I'll be able to sleep without figuring out how to make my own platform. I can buy some chains no problem.

    Soo... I've been thinking.

I could just use the cheapest, thinnest Amsteel if I'm using 4 lines to hold up an 8 ft diameter platform.

But what will my 8 ft platform "ring" be made of???

Please rack your brains hard for this one.

4 lines? So it needs to be very light yet very sturdy. I think you should ask Dutch. He seems to be the one who gets strong yet light.

I don't think it needs to be very light at all.

According to the magical Interwebz, the 7/64" Amsteel Blue is rated to hold 1,600 lbs. If you have a long enough rope, cut into 4 pieces.... you have just quadrupled your rating. So... Amsteel Blue will hold 6,400 pounds, which is plenty for an orgy.

Only problem is that if i use a flimsy "platform", I would need more like 8 pieces of Amsteel Blue... so that the metal ring doesn't bend.

Didn't know what you're talking about 'til I watched the video again. They're even wearing the same pants!!

At some point, I did hear the word trampoline yesterday after getting off it. It is pretty similar. The one I lied on was very much like trampoline material, too. Very weather resistant. Just no flex with springs and such just inside the ring.

This might actually work, Shotgunred!! YOU'RE HIRED!!

Awesome video. I enjoy sleepitation more than anyone.

That vidoe reminds me that buying a pipe bender, pipe, and couplers/clamps would be far less expensive than buying this thing straight from the company for $3,000. What a rip off. But what an awesome thing to bring to market, even if at a rip-off price. Free markets can't be beat, I tell ya.

Dude. You want one of these in your bedroom. You want one in your guest bedroom. You want one in your living room. And you want a couple outside your house.

Everybody needs 5 of these. Like I said, it's "zero-point gravity" like a cot. But unlike a hammock, it rocks in ALL directions.

It really is the ultimate hang, and you guys should make a point to try it out before you die. [I saw it by the Hard Rock Casino Hotel pool.]

It really has changed my life. I'm going to be tossing out my hammock stand, coffee table, L-shaped desk, and even entertainment center. Everything must go to be replaced by the "Zero-point Sleepitation" Machine.

This Floating Bed is awesome. But Amsteel Blue + Trampoline frame might just bring a bigger smile to my face than shelling out $3,000.

I think I can hit the sack in a regular old hammock for just one more night. Gonna try it at least.

Thanks for the tips, guys!!! Hope this thing changes your lives like it did mine, too.

THE ULTIMATE HANG, I TELL YOU!!!!!
