Then get a second hammock, comfortable enough for you to sleep in, if not preferred. Then you'll be able to invite others to try it, lending that second quilt in most conditions. Truth is, lending someone a hammock to use with you without an UQ anytime it will be below 50F isn''t polite.
At some time, the gearmakers need to expand the market beyond the addicts deep in down. That market gets saturated, the quilts not wearing out.
I have one of each of Hammock Gear's underquilts. I never use the 20* my 0* is warmer and a lot lighter. It's almost as light as my 40*. Get a light 0* from HG and you'll be set.

Thanks everyone, good feedback. Already having a 40°, I think adding a 20° would have me wishing I had a 0° as well. I'm pretty sure I'll go with a 0° as my second quilt.

What I personally did to lighten up my winter quilts (and all my quilts for that matter) was have Stormcrow make me a custom winter burrow out of all 7D and a zero incubator outer shell M55 and inner shell 7D. That cut the overall weight down of the quilts by using lighter material. I'll weigh them tomorrow for you and post the weights if you would like?

My zero is made with a cuben inner and sevenD outer. It is cut to my exact length and weighs 21.75 oz. and is just 3oz heavier than my 40*.

+1 on the 0*. I have 3 of them and can sleep all the way up to about 50*.
I have a couple of 40* Incubators with +1 oz each that will go to from about 35* up to too warm for an UQ.
(I'm always outfitting my friends for trips).
If you got both of these, you could double them up (like Shug said - for his CRAZY -26* trips. You gotta love that guy).
Personally, I'd go with the lower rated UQ because I think you can adjust it so that you can use it in a much wider range of temps. My under quilt is rated at -10 (custom made Underground quilt) and I've used it in much warmer real time temps up close to 50 degrees. I simply had to hang it a bit loose and open up or vent the ends. Plus use a lighter summer weight top quilt and I was good to go. I figured that carrying the heavier winter under quilt was off set by being able to use the very light weight summer top quilt. I was still warm if the temps decided to dip down lower than forcasted. And could get comfortable if temps went higher too.
In all this, you do need to have already tested so that you know which quilts you can use for the temp ranges you'll be camping in. For example, If temps are supposed to range from say mid 30's to very high 40's, I know to bring my winter UQ and summer TQ. If the low is lower than that, I bring my winter TQ instead. If low's are higher than that, I exchange my winter UQ for my Summer UQ. This is how I rotate my Winter UQ & TQ and my Summer UQ & TQ and it took me quite a few camping trips to figure out what works for me. I'm a very cold sleeper and my quilt choices are made due to that.
