    should of paid attention

Not that i am complaining, but i should have listened to experience here on the forum. I bought a dd tarp, the 3m x3m, and after rigging it, and with snakeskins guylines and stakes it comes to just under 3 lb.! man i knew it was heavy but once i combine everything i will be at my tent weight, and NOW I understand why oz's count! lol. Its all good thought because i can use it year round and get experience with it, and its a bit heavy but well constructed,,, yet the weight will never leave my mind!
ahhh a little ot and who knows?
lesson learned, buy twice or once......this stuff is addicting!

If you can afford it - Cuben is the way forward. Honestly, I know it's mega expensive but the weight is astonishing! Makes a HUGE difference to my packweight & will do the same for yours too.

No sense in kicking yourself. Really, if I added up all the tarps I bought that I don't use for whatever reason, it would break my heart.

Your dd tarp is PU coated poly, To me it would seem to make it very durable. Maybe a good tarp to loan to a friend or family who wants to come hang with you? That's where all my unused gear goes. I have a family of 5 and I make the young kids carry the heavy tarps/hammocks.

I have a few cuben tarps but I don't always bring them. A lot depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing. Sometimes having a more durable tarp is the right one to bring. My next trip out I will bring a new Spinn tarp I just got. Sure it's heavier than my cubens but I won't have to worry about it as much since it seems more durable.

If it really bugs you to have keep the tarp, you should sell it and get something that will work for you.

That can happen with a cuben tarp too, over rigging adds up quickly. I took a 6.5oz tarp to up over 17oz before I came to my senses. In my case the deception was going from a simple hex tarp with 6 attachment points to a winter tarp with 14 attachment points. I was able to reduce the weight of my stakes and eliminate almost all of my tensioners to get back down under 12oz (rigged, stakes and bagged).

Beware that rigging can be so much fun that you quickly over do it.

Try a silnylon tarp next. I know it cost more but a friend of mine years ago taught me the philosophy of "When buying quality, you only cry once". Not that a DD isn't quality, I'm sure it is but being a PU coated tarp spells heavy to begin with. I have a couple of PU coated tarps and they are my backyard tarps and loaners. Everyone needs those anyway.
Question, What did you use to rig it with?

Everybody needs a clunker tarp in the collection.
That's the tarp you let your friends use when they are too cheap to go get their own.
