I am stunned by the weight, packability, and simplicity of the two saws posted here. QiWiz--a 4 ounce saw that cuts 5.5 inch logs? Seriously? A one-handed 1 pound 1-piece saw? Seriously?

But why do I need a saw? Oh, yeah, for those times when that guy in my usual group that gets off carrying a 3 pound hatchet doesn't show. Or for when that kid fresh from NOLS training doesn't want to show off for his mother by dragging half of the seasoned wood on the trail into camp. Because I most certainly always WILL be the first guy at the fire! And I like a big 'un!

These are the kinds of things I'm talking about. They make the trail and camp easier and they are being supplied by others without me even thinking about it.

A can or two of smoked oysters with a fresh lime and some crackers. Good appetizers.

Yes, I have a very imaginative 4 y.o. daughter that loves the Pinkfoot story. She'll be disappointed when we go camping and he doesn't show up.

ETA: Something a friend brought along once that was a big hit was a strand of battery powered led Christmas lights. Strung them in the "kitchen" area. They gave off enough light to make a cup of coffee without having to use a headlamp.

    .
Can't be sacred of Pinkfoot, he just wants to sing songs by the camp fire. My son sleeps in a puppy tent on top his bed almost every weekend thanks to that episode.

Bubble, always a hit in the woods with kids. They will chase those things around for hours.

That is just the bag I'm considering, only just the "little bear" type. It won't stop bears, but then I don't *have* bears...raccoons, mice, and opossums, we have.

I make it my business to make sure everyone gets all the coffee they want a group hangs. And sometimes, Margaritas in industrial quantities.

Margaritas on the trail....I'm thinking I like this idea but baffled by logistics

my ursack... almost every trip my hiking buds ask if they can just stash their food in it

the carried weight of a secret beer makes a hiking buddy thankful

and the mini candle lantern is a group pleaser if a fire is out of the question

That's got me thinking that a little lemon lime Gatorade powder and a couple limes might make a decent margarita mix substitute. I think I'll try it on my next trip.
