    Hi from the Sunshine State.

I enjoy hammocking, hiking, camping, biking, running, swimming, weightlifting and outdoor pursuits.

I want to see all parks and forests strive for more hammocking. It feels good to be off the ground in my new hammock. But I feel like an outcast because tenting is the preferred method of camping.
Maybe tenting is outdated? Or maybe hammocking is just a fad? Only time will tell.

I enjoy my hammock and I like stringing it up, relaxing in it and using my mosquito net. It is the best of both worlds because it is light and easy to carry on hikes as well as comfortable.
My greatest challenge is looking for a park or forest that accomodates hammockers so I can do an overnighter in the Tampa Bay Area. Maybe Withlachootchie or Ocala Forest?

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Happy Hammocking!

Well they just recently legalized hammock camping in FL state parks, so that broadens your horizons quite a bit. I am also in Tampa Bay, and one of my favorite places is Colt Creek State Park off of 98 in polk county. Withlacoochee and Ocala are great spots too. Welcome to the forums.

Well we have good news, samsara just took the initiative to show Senator Paula Dockery how "Leave No Trace" hammocking is about a week ago, she issued a letter to all FL state parks to allow hammocking. Read the thread here.

    That's how we roll...

Welcome to the forum... Good people and good info here. soak it up...

Hey guys. Good to meet you all.

Does anyone know of any places to camp and throw up a hammock for a night and not be seen? It has to be near Tampa Bay Area.

Withlocootchie Forest and Ocala are too far.

I am closer to downtown Tampa. I looked at Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park. That is about an hour away. I wish there were places closer to me.

I want to do an overnight somewhere. Just throw up a hammock, light a fire, eat, and catch some zzzzzz's in my hammock.

    Thanks.

Southwest Florida Water Managment allows camping they have extensive properties most are primitive. There is a recreation guide online to find a place near you. Near Tarpon is J.B. Starkey wilderness park a place that I use frequently.
