Where to hang a hammock in Tampa Bay?

Does anyone know of any campgrounds or parks near the Tampa Bay Area within 30 minutes where I can do a solo overnight and not get caught?
What are the fines for hammocking?

I want to hang a hammock, start a campfire, eat and sleep for a solo overnight.

I checked out Withlacoothchie and Ocala forests. Too far.

    Any ideas?

A quick google maps search came up with several state parks Southeast of the bay, Little Manatee SP, Alfia River SP, Beker SP and Myakka River SP. If you want to go where no man has gone before, look for inaccessability.

If you see a full parking lot you might want to scope out another area. Have the wife drop you off if need be. That way you won't have to worry about the car while you're in the woods.

I don't know if you've seen this thread yet, but you can now hang in FL state parks! Be sure and call ahead, though; it's entirely possible that the folks at the ground floor haven't heard just yet.

I'm not real familiar with the area down around Tampa, other than some of the skateparks, so... Sorry about that.

    Hope it helps!

Oh yeah! Myakka State Park is beautiful too! Should be some good hiking/hanging opportunities there! Pretty far from Tampa though...

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. Here is a link for Hillsborough County Ellap lands, I've never camped on any but some do have camping or at least the Alafia River Corridor does.http://www.hillsboroughcounty.org/pa...ices/elapp.cfm

I was born in Tampa, and though I was pretty young when we moved, I have been been back a few times since. Personally, I don't recall ever seeing any good places to hang in the bay, as there are few trees standing there....
