Should we make a new thread?
With beauty all around you, may you walk.
Hey guys, I just saw this thread. I would love to participate in a Missouri this fall or at least when it cools down. The September dates would work for me. I've never been there but that would be fine. My only limitation is about 5-6 miles a day
So if you plan anything, please let me know and I'll do my best to join up.
I just started using a hammock this year and love it! I don't have any friends into backpacking or hanging so it would be great to get out there with some forum members.
Take care

I'm in...as long as I can leave my ground-dwelling ways by then. It's not gravity holding me down, its the money...

Verissumus; don't stay behind because you're in a tent. I for one wouldn't mind and it would be a shame to miss it. Gear is gear and although hammocks might have brought us together on the forum I suspect we're all a bit deeper than that.
There are a lot of good hiking areas in the current river area, including national forests, OT, and missouri conservation areas. A place I've visited that could be great is Taum Sauk Falls State part. The highest (wet) waterfalls in missouri is there but if you hike into the bottom you pick up part of the AT. I haven't hiked in the bottom but it sounds good.
Bell Mountain area is good and although it's a bit on the eastern side of the state, there's an unusual place called Cathedral Canyon. It's rugged and beautiful, however, if the access point is wet from rain it can be hard to access. For our first Missouri hang it might be a good idea to pick an established trail head to meet at so driving conditions aren't a factor.
A favorite place of mine is Trail of Tears State park. the section along pickle springs is great but I would guess we have members here with a LOT of experience at many different places. I just think it would be great to meet other forum members. I know exactly zero guys into backpacking much less with hammocks.
I'd suggest we pick a date, lock it down and go from there. The sooner we have a date the easier it'll be for everyone to make plans.
Enjoy the weekend.

I agree, maybe just a hang not so far from the car, maybe a mile or so. I don't have all the equipment for a long hike just yet.
I've hanged at Hawn and Sam A. Baker State parks. Give me a shout on a Missouri gathering.

Ground camped- before I became a convert at Trail of Tears SP. Want to go back and hang there. There are some good locations just off the trail that is on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The only draw back is that at the bottom of the bluff is an active railroad line with trains comming through every 4 or so hours--day and night. And then there is the barge traffic with the noise of the big tug's engines. But it would be a great view to wake up too--if you can sleep.
