    100% polyester quilting yarn???

Reading through the KAQ directions I see "100% polyester quilting yarn" for the quilting loops. What is this, where does it come from, & is it the only/best product that can be used?

My wife and I use 100% Polyester yarn, like what you crochet with. That is al you really need when tacking a quilt. It doesn't have to be fancy, just done so that the insulation stays in place. It has to be a synthetic material, so nylon would work as well. Try to avoid thin threads, as these can cut the insulation and shell over time.

Is there a special needle that is used for this?

I use a straight upholstery needle for this - works well. Can be bought in almost any place that sells fabric.

Leather needles can be problematic because a true leather needle has sharp cutting edges along the side at the point. The end of the needle is triangular in shape and the points of the triangle cut the leather to help the needle pierce. This can lead to the fabric being cut as well as the insulation being cut leading to the possibility of premature failure. Any needle intended for upholstery or regular hand sewing would be a better choice.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

We got ours at Wal-Mart. I just looked for big needles with a big eye that the yarn would go thru. I am the one that has to do all the tacking, so I hate trying to thread that big yarn thru a small eye. The one that I use now works great, and is easy to thread.
