Within the past two years I have gotten into backpacking and recently into hammocks. Can anyone recommend some nice remote places?

St. Mary's Wilderness
Ramsey's Draft Wilderness
Big Run Portal Loop, southern section SNP
Wild Oak Trail, GWNF
Iron Mountain Trail
Anywhere in the Grayson Highlands/Mt. Rodgers (get the map, avoid the crowds by identifying them and going in the opposite direction. There are a ton of trails down there, and even on a weekend it is possible to avoid the crowds completely)
*Do not count out all the wonderful empty places West Virginia has to offer: Dolly Sods, Roaring Plains, Flatrock Plains, Cranberry Wilderness, Seneca Creek, etc.
Dolly Sods is a closer drive than all those great places in SW Virginia.
Get an annual pass from Shenandoah, and check out all the loop trails off the main thoroughfares (AT & Skyline Dr). The southern section seems to be the most empty.
Hope this helps you get started.
