First Hang...Need some advice

Hello everyone,

First time Hanger/poster here. Just got my ENO DN and a Profly tarp and using the Kammock Python Straps. I took them out for a test ride this evening. It was super windy so the tarp was hard to put up. I couldn't get my ridge line directly over my hammock. I believe it was because I didn't have enough space between the trees. I took some pictures. Any advice?

Also I wasn't sure about the best way to attach the tarp to the tree (I don't know knots very well). Advice on this would be great too!

I would like to thank Shug. Your how-to videos were awesome. I just think I need some personal advice at this point.

For the tarp to tree I use a taut-line hitch on one side and a figure 9 on the other.

Hello and welcome. The suspension could be shortened a little which would decrease the angle. Try and get it so the suspension is around 30 degrees when your lovely wife is in it. It will decrease your sag a little so you have to play around with it a little. It's good you got the python straps instead of the slap straps but they are still a bit limiting in terms if adjustment. Shortening your suspension and then lowering the attachment points on the trees will certainly help getting the hammock under the ridgeline.

Maybe try adding a ridgeline to your hammock so you can shorten up the suspension and still get the amount of sag you need.

Also the trees being further apart might help. If you tie the tarp ridgeline further away from the tree there will be a little gap in-between the two lines that you can run your suspension through so everything is centered. Does that make any sence?

All of the above plus raise the tarp so that is clears the hammock suspension so you can center it.

I think the tarp is lowered because the original poster feels like there is better coverage. I have not gotten my hammock yet but this has worried me. I thought I might bee too far below the tarp to get protection if it rains. The suggestions make me feel much better and a need for a ridge line. When I DIY my hammock I will add the ridge line Abe probably make it and easily detachable one.

the tarp suspension can actually be far easier than the hammock. For mine I use a loop in the end of the tarp ridge-line that I can pull around a tree, push against my ridge-line and then slip a stick through it. I can then use a Dutch tarp Flyz on the other end. It couldn't be easier.

Hello and welcome, it looks like you have a really good setup. one thing I would recommend is to use a taut line hitch for staking you fly out. This makes it easier tighten it and to take it down.
