    Storin backpack?

(I know there is already a thread about this, but I can't find it again )

What do you do with your backpack if it's raining? Just covering it with a trash bag and hanging it from the end of the hammock seems sketchy.

Also, I'm curious if anyone here are hitchhikers instead of hikers/etc.?

Why not just put it on the ground under the center of the hammock?

If I know there is rain in the forcast I lay mine underneath the hammock and tarp on the ground. I f I know its not going to rain I will strap it around the head end tree with the waist belt and the strap I use for my sleeping pad.

When do you know this? I have never felt comfortable in trusting a weather report when it comes to rain. It seems like it is alawys off and the trail almost is always a bit different than the town you get the report from. I was in Grayson Highlands back in June, one night we went to bed with a clear sky, no clouds at all and woke up to a downpour. I am not trying to cute or antagonistic, I would like to learn how you learn to tell.

    It's pretty easy really.
Prepare for the worst and expect the best.
Sooo, place your pack under your hammock in a garbage bag or pack cover or something. Expect rain but if you get none then all's good.

I agree with Gunn Parker, prepare for the worst and expect the best. Cover your pack with your rain cover or at least a bag or poncho, and place it underneath your arse and hammock. I made a gear hammock for my bag and ended up using it as a drop cloth for sitting on, cooking, and keeping my bag off the dense wet forest floor last trip, worked great. As far as predicting weather, mountain storms come quick and larger mountains create their own weather systems and often don't correspond with local news weather predictions, so always assume it could rain when up in the alpine, watches or gps units that determine barometric pressure are helpful, I have a Highgear watch that has a barometric read out and I've found it helpful.
