    ...when there are no trees...

I might be WAY LATE with this. I'm a fairly new hanger and recently a group of us went to the beach. We went onto the sand with two SUV's and I had my ENO doublenests and slap straps (don't hate on me over slap straps...don't I have a year to convert?? ), but, of course no trees.

The attached file is how we configured for some "hang time" for a break while fishing.

It worked fine. I'm a "big boy" (250lbs. +) and everything was just fine.

...since a picture is worth 1,000 words, check it out. BUT, keep in mind that I ALREADY KNOW my drawing skills leave plenty to be desired...

    Enjoy!!

I am a new hanger from Texas. And I am also interested in how you hang from two suv/trucks. Does anyone else have pics of some hammocks hanging from vehicles?

I have not had to do it, but I presume roof racks come in handy here. I have seen pics of folks using bicycles and motorcycles for one hang point and a tree for another. I have seen pics of folks using a cam on a rock face for one end and a tree for the other. I have seen folks hang from a single tree (live oaks and post oaks are good for this with spreading branches). I plan to hang from a live oak on campus after I graduate

Jeeps are great for this. If it's just me though I use my hitch/hammock stand.

We had a Ford Explorer and a 4 door Jeep Cherokee. As you see from the illustration, we opened the rear door and I didn't mark clearly that we opened the window, attached to the top of the door and closed each door while laying the strap across the roof.

If you have an OEM roof rack, I'd be very careful. We started to attach to the side of one of the rails and liked the idea better of attaching to the farthest door which, it seems, would keep weight spread out over the whole roof.

Davros - That's SWEET!!! One "glitch" though - Isn't it in the terms and conditions of this site that posting a pic with such a sweet hammock setup and any portion of a tent in the same picture is blasphemy of some sort ??? (Totally kidding....)

I have a jeep and know there would be no problem suspending from the roll bars. But I would not put it my factory roof rack of my explorer. I can just see that coming right off! But can not think of another place to tie off too. The jeep hitch things look nice. But just seem like it would be awkward to pack and transport

These are good options when there are no trees. Might go to the beach now.

autolox - If there isn't a rule, there should be. The wife insisted on a big box
    store tent for
her and the kids (had 5 little ones at the time. That pic is from 9 years
    ago)
L.D. Cakes - I don't have any other pics of it. I retired it last year. Not sure
where I put it. I can dig it out after next week if you want me to.
Been working on a new model that folds up, has adjustable support
foot on the end, and a second section to use with the first so I can
actually use it without the Jeep in the backyard or where ever.

Cole - It's definitely not for backpacking. It breaks down into 3 pieces about 40 inches
long and fits behind the rear seat. It goes together pretty easy. Stick first section
into hitch, then second, then the upright and 2 thumb screws. Takes less than 2
    minutes.

Davros that is too cool. I would love to see close ups of that as well. I was thinking about one that would run parallel to the tailgate on my truck to that I could use the bed of the truck for easy access to "stuff".
