Nice job GroundHog. Are the tripods lashed together like a turtlelady stand.
It's good to see several hangers using this setup. After I first gave it a try and posted photos, it seemed to take a long time before others started to adopt the aluminum poles.
Yes they are lashed. I'm also using modified 1 1/2 inch sewer test plugs in the ends for spikes as limiters. gmttcr thanks for the help on this. I needed to be able to break it down to fit in my motorcycle trailer, and these work great.

Asked here on this thread, but more a turtlelady-alum-stand question.
Have asked the question about the limiters over in that thread.
You inspired some followers, gmcttr.
Those who experimented; understand the details; imaged+explained early military-alum-pole-tripods have made a path to follow.
Have the alum poles for three tripods+ridgepoles.
Snapbuttons have been ordered from graingers.
The lashing is very compelling. A beautiful thing. Strong and basic.
Yet . . . I am drawn to the hardware.
Have some new-old-stock eyebolts ( surplus from a project 20yrs ago ).
Currently : contemplating . . .
Working on an alum-turtlelady stand or an alum-artjrk-hardware-turtlelady as agfadoc did.
Will you "explain+image" this when you get a chance ?
I'm also using modified 1 1/2 inch sewer test plugs in the ends for spikes as limiters.
Thanks

Groundhog, it was late last night when I posted your stand to the TD list and I didn't check out the pic. Still a great looking stand and may have to do one of the gmcttr's version of the TL myself for travel.

This is what I used. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes.

Remove the stock bolt and wing nut, buy a longer carriage bolt and nut. Put it back together using the longer bolt and the nut in place of the wing nut. Grind the end of the bolt to a point. Put the plug in the end of the tube snug the nut up until the plug is tight in the tube, then you have a spike to stick in the ground to keep the leg from kicking out. This also keeps the tube from filling up with dirt or mud. You can leave them in or take them out when you take it down. I take mine out because I don't want to poke anything with the point, plus they make the poles a little too long for the bag. If you need me to, I can take a picture of mine tomorrow for you.

GroundHog,
I will added this information to the turtlelady stand thread with the other alum pole info.
Thanks for the explanation and the link. Good explanation. I can imagine it.
Yet . . . you know they will want pictures / images.
We were thinking about capping the ends to keep out dirt . . . this is a terrific two purpose solution.

I stopped by the local Army Surplus Store today and the guy had a ton of 4' poles in aluminum and fiberglass. The fiberglass was a little bit lighter. So I picked up 16 of the fiberglass at 3.50 each and came home and slapped it together in about 30 minutes and snapped these picks with the RR bridge on it. Works like a charm. Then took it all apart and tied the amsteel around the 3 poles like the video on lashing the bamboo together,,made it all nice and tight. Using the fiberglass for the horizontal pole worked for my weight of 165, but won't work for the wife as she is cracking 200 and so I called the Army Surplus and told him I would be by tomorrow to pick up 8 - 4fters in aluminum and 8 in fiberglass, and will make the horizontal poles in aluminum with 2 stands making the tripods out of the fiberglass. Thanks to everybody on the thread for all the great ideas..
Anybody got the link on the Granger snap dealies??? or what you call them for keeping the poles together?
Thanks again for all the great ideas.
