    Would this be practical?

Also, for the Crossbar, would it be feasible to have that made out of 2 sections of 2x3, bolted together? (Instead of a huge metal pole)
If memory serves there was someone who hung 3 together and another with a pair of hammocks on 3 tripods. As far as the crossbar of 2x3's I'm not sure that it wouldn't be heavier than the fence rail.

You can probably make it with 4 TD stands. 4 on the sides and 1 in the middle.

Weight is not my concern - Having a 6 foot truck bed is.

I'm Trying to figure out how to get all this in the truck, without having a tonneau cover half open with a lumberyard hanging out the back.

Well, the metal top rail is 10', cut in half so it's shorter than the stands in that way. Best solution I've seen.
6' stands are more of a challenge than the top rail. If you can go corner to corner though, you should have no issues.

I am pretty sure my truck bed is 6' and my stand goes in corner to corner, and just fits, with no room to spare......RR

    Another successful TDS

Finally got around to knocking out a set of three TDS stands for my son and I to be able to hang in the yard. Used 2x3s just because I like to overbuild things and I'm not the smallest lad out there... carved out some wood dowels for the fence rail ends... not quite sure how I'm going to connect the rail to the stand yet... used amsteel soft shackles just to give it a try today. Still needs some sanding, maybe a coat of varnish...

Both my son and wife tried it out with the HH Scout with no flex in the top rail at all... rain came down before I got to hang up the Clark and give it a shot myself, but pretty happy with how they turned out.

Great big huge thanks to everyone on HF for the fantastic info on the TDS and the bazillion other things I've learned!

Cool Beans! I'm not quite clear if you built three complete stands or three tripods for two hangers...

What is your top rail now? Can't quite tell from the picture.

So I picked up some timber/hinges and bolts today but still need to figure out the top rail.

Here in the UK, chain fences are not that popular so I'm struggling to get a top rail, what have been the most popular alternatives that people have found?

Do you need it to break down to 6' or smaller pieces? That's the real restriction that makes the chain link fencing top rail so attractive as it can be cut in half and slid together to make a sturdy pitted piece.

If you don't need it to do that, most anything sturdy will do, if you do it right.
