I mean, I've never seen one fail. My original stand uses end caps and it's fine.

But it was pointed out to me, and I believe it. Pot metal is just not made to the standards one would want to trust your body to. All my more recent stands, I hang from the eye bolts.

(I still use the original stand as is, but you know... hyoh and all that... )

I too would not trust them. Not load-rated, and may be subjected to twisting by the 'biner.

You could use an all-thread coupler nut and two longer eye bolts per end to allow the force to essentially "pass through" the assembly. Red Lock-Tite will prevent unintended loosening.

So I finally got some time to build mine the other day, excuse the mess of a garden, it's currently having a renovation.

I used a 4.2metre as the ridgeline as I can't easily get hold of a garden fence.

This makes its less portable, but I'm looking at getting the handy hammock setup for when I leave the garden!

May as well add me to the list, olddog. Just finished pre-testing mine for this weekend's trip to Fernandina Beach with the missus.

I need to get better connection hardware, but that's a matter of sizing rather than issues with sturdiness...will do a trip report and video to cover the issues I encountered with my build and will be linking to it for folks wondering about this stand.
