I am just waiting for my aluminium sliding poles for the top pole to arrive then they will get the same treatment. Please comment and any ideas welcome.
Interesting way to do the hinge with the outside legs being attached like that. It must fold up flat that way.

Do I see no spread limiters on there? I would suggest adding those. Might seem secure on good ground but get a heavy rain and the ground gets sloppy and splat! Failure on one of these and that ridge pole is following you to the ground...

Nice advancement with the hinge Jiffyboy. I love the way an idea presented to the forum takes on a life of it's own and progresses in leaps and bounds.

One thing I noticed in one of the pics that I failed to consider while testing that I would comment on. The quick clip in one shot is open. Do not test your hammock with the clip open as it will spread and will need to be hammered back into alignment. Been there, done that.

I left it open just to demonstrate what it was and it's a 1/2" clip my stand is absolutely over engineered as its 3x2 timber 5/8 bolts and 15" hinges and the top rail is a steel handrail that I welded chain links to. I recon the weakest part of it is the climbing carabiners! I also like the way you can put your tarp directly on the top rail pull it real tight and it's a smooth breakover angle.

That is sweet. Are those 2x4? I like how you made the 3rd leg shorter to tuck under the hinge when folded. I also really like your loops on the end of the pole. I really like that a lot. I may have to use that Idea when I finally get a pole for my sons. Right now his has a 2x4 as the ridge pole. That and his is lashed and has no hinge. Now I see how I want to modify his in the future. Wish I had new Ideas for you but you did give me new ideas for mine. I am thinking about making my sons with square tubing so he can stick his magnetic toys to it top bottom and sides. His is not really intended to be portable so the pole will likely be one piece. Still thinking of ideas for my stand that will be portable. Can you do a pic of how yours is when folded? Close up of the hinge area would be great if it folds up the way I think it will.

Has anyone been doing any thinking about a winter setup for this stand? I have some ideas but nothing I can play with as I still have not built my stand yet and my sons stand is intended to be more of a permanent setup rather than portable. I can envision tarping it right down to the ground sort of like a tent. I realize not everyone would want that type of coverage but It would have its appeal for some of us and certainly for those who have wives that dont like the idea of sleeping under a basically open tarp.

Also the little loops are chain links with the welded joint cut off then welded onto the steel toprail!
