DONE!!! I love the black top rail.

I have hung in the stand a couple of nights already.

Specs: Legs are 6' long; Black chain link top rail from Lowes; Black gate hinges; SS shackles; Galvanized bolts.

The black top rail only came in a 21' length, so I ordered a second one and am in the process of making a second stand with 7' legs and SS bolts. I could not find SS bolts initially, I am impatient I will have enough rail to make a third stand....guess I will have to make a third!!

Artjrk's stand is another great variation on the Turtlelady stand. samsara came up with the name "TurtleDog" and based the difference on the hinge as everthing thing else is the same. Maybe we need a new name for Artjrk's design.

    harleynemo, beautiful stand!

Just a reminder, we love pictures!

Well, I started this over a month ago and finally finished tonight. And I didn't kill myself! I need to get the hammock a little higher but it was fine for a test run. Can't wait to build another...or two. I plan on using them next weekend when I do a hammock presentation at the Florida Trail Regional Conference. That'll be a great way to let people actually try out the hammocks instead of just looking at them.

I was running out of daylight so the pics aren't that great. I'll try to shoot more this weekend.

I almost stayed with the stock 10 1/2' rail but figured I'd start long and work down if necessary. Each rail is cut to 7' 1 1/1" to give me a total fitted length of 14'. I think once I get the height above ground raised a little this length will actually be perfect. It seemed to give me a very flat lay.

Don't you have any nice soft grass to test hang over?
I like to live on the edge. I was honestly surprised I didn't kill myself.

The top rail is two pieces. The section with the narrow "coupling" end on it is 7' 3" (the 3" is the coupling) and the second section is 7'. I have a Superfly tarp and wanted room to mount.

This is how I hook up everything. The black carabiner is the hammock and the yellow Zing-It is the Superfly. This picture was pre-stain on the wood and just a regular top rail.
