I use two large maples that are about that distance apart. In fact, I've been surprised by posts saying 15' is optimal. To me, that's much too short. When looking for trees on the trail, I pace off and find that 6 to 7 steps is optimal. That's about 18 to 21 feet. For me, 25 is certainly not double the optimal distance.

In my case at home, with the two maples in my yard, I have chains with eyebolts in each tree, because my Pawley's Island Hammock stays up all summer. When I want to hang my Hennessey there, I just use a bit of the chains on each end to attach my whoopies to.

How tall are your tripods when set up? Am I correct that they are a bit narrower spread than most? I think that will be good for me because the more vertical they are the more weight they support. Careful not to go too far though, to avoid tipping.

I like the idea of angling the ends to avoid needing the spread limiter, not to mention it simply looks cleaner.

Great point about leaving 1/4" ... Wouldn't have thought of that until afterward.
The tripods are just over 70" tall and the ridge pole hangs right at 60". They are not as splayed as some others that have been shown here.

I'd suggest making them long and then finding the length you want. Easier to cut more off than to add length back.

Out of curiosity, how high up are the eyebolts?

I was going to ask the same thing...

Rain Man, I hang usually about a 16' span and my straps are about 6-7' high in order to get proper sag and about 20" seat height. And I have a fairly long hammock.

I don't see how you're doing 25' unless you have a real shallow angle, and that adds a lot of stress on the component parts.

Not that I know anything, except we don't want to have you taking a hard landing!

Where did you find rubber feet to fit the 2x2? The largest I could find are 11/2"

Not sure but I believe that is the size I used. The '2x2's are actually 1 5/8" square, just round or shave the corners off for a snug fit. Congrats on your new stand.

You might want to to have your tape measure calibrated. Normal 2xanythings are 1 3/8" thick. I can vaguely remember when they were 1 1/2".

Wouldn't the fuzz on tennis balls tend to slide on a slick interior surface?

That, and my dog would be pulling on them?

I guess they probably would. Didn't think about that. I've seen them used on chair legs, but I guess that's the point...so you can slide around!

Now THAT is definitely a problem.
