I like those hppyfngy end cuts. Really finishes off the tops.

A quick question with these stands. I see that most of you are using whoopie slings with yours. I use the old cinch buckle system with my dangerbird, and was wondering if this type of stand can be used with it? I will probably try to build one soon (like next week lol) and was wondering if this would be possible.

Bought the wood last night, 6" Heavy Duty hinges, and 1/4 bolts/washer/nuts over at Home Depot last night. I held off on buying the ridgeline pole (they sell a 10' 6" for roughly $11). This seems a little short for anyone wanting to put up a tarp (mine is 12x12 until I make my hexcat). When going beyond this length, what was the approach? Buy two poles, or do fencing supply stores sell longer lengths?

    Thanks,
Buy 2 poles, cut to the length you need. I tried to center the swagger end. You could use a full length and then add what ever you need for the tarp to fit, but this kills the transport part of this stand. My poles are 79" and 80", not bad for just eyeballing it.....RR

Thanks olddog. I feel like I should tweak the next one to try to get a slightly wider stance, but the early design does make a nice footprint. IMHO.

This has been a lot of fun to watch and participate in hasn't it?

Absolutely! Who woudda thunk it? An idea by the Turtlelady, a tweak here, an improvement there, fresh ideas all the time and here we are, closing on 150.

hppyfngy - Widened my tripods to get a 4 foot spread. It was very easy mod. Think it only lost about an inch of height. I like it.

    EMT conduit TurtleDog stand

Has anyone tried using 1" EMT conduit with 1" dia. wood dowels to make the legs of a turtleDog stand? 1" EMT has an inner diameter of 1.049" making a 1" wood dowel good for an inner sleeve/plug. I've been thinking of giving it a try. I'm thinking of making two piece legs and a four piece crossbar so that the overall length disassembled of less than 4'. I've looked at using 2x2 wood but I can't find a single straight 8' 2x2 much less six of them. Also sleeving a 2x2 is not exactly easy. I think it would be plenty strong enough although probably heavier than wood. Any experience out there?

I'd be interested in your findings.. the aluminum poles in the other thread work great but have to be lashed, I want the mechanical hinge and the abilty to take it down to fit in my trunk.
