    Hey y’all,

How do I attach the ridgepole to the tripods with rope?

I’m new to hanging and am trying to build a TD stand. I have the tripods built of 2x2s and have four sections of aluminum mast pole. My plan was to drill eyebolts through the aluminum but my drill is not up to the task. I have seen pics on here of people using cordage to attach the ridgepole but as a newbie I am not confident of what knot or lashing technique I should be using.

    Any pointers appreciated!

I am going to build a stand this week too for the backyard. I would recommend a continous loop and Lark's Head Knot

Thanks for replying! I don’t feel confident about making a continuous loop yet, and nobody seems to sell the 24” length that folks on here seem to be using. I am thinking I might walk over to a nearby auto shop and see if they will drill a couple holes for me with their pneumatic drill.

Hey Shnnn, I just ordered some AMSTEEL CONTINUOUS LOOPS 8 and 15 inches and perhaps next time I will order DOG BONE 24 or 36 inches.

I am going to try 8-inch Continuous loop larks to the pole.

Will a 2x2 turtle dog stand hold a heavier hanger (350 lbs) or would it need to be made out of 2x4 instead?

Maybe it is buried in this string of 300+ posts but I'm wondering if anyone has used a 90 degree hammock with a Turtledog? Does it work? I am inclined to think it would but maybe someone has tried it?

2x2 works just fine. I’ve been doing it for 5+ years although I’ve shed some of that weight during the last two. Pick straight lumber without knots and make sure your ridge pole is the correct length so that the hammock attachment point is in the dead center of the triangle to avoid flexing the ridge pole and it won’t even bear weight except when getting in/out.

I thought my new hammock turtledog stand needed a 2018 thread. I Love it, I hope you do too!
