Apparently you haven't read this entire thread. The angles on the tops are made exactly like those described in post #119 (page 6).
However to save you time the angles are approx. 15 deg. For the two side to side supports, and 25 deg. For the back leg. Even after I cut and screwed on the legs to the hinge, I hung a plumb bob off the center of the hinge, and just eyed how centered the string was between the three legs. I had to cut extra wood off the bottom back leg so the plumb bob would hang equidistant.
By the way I used 2x 3's. home depot's stock looked much straighter. Fewer knots than the 2x2's.
The top pole is two ten foot sections of fencing top rail. It appears the joint is weak buts really not because the force on the couple joint is actually upward, not down. If you look at the photo of the end, the pole is suspended about 4" from the end, but the hammock hangs from the end. Therefore the coupling strength on the center of the pole is not an issue.
Overall length of the pole is 14'. I just cut both sections 7'. Hope this helps.
