If you got a lightweight polypro that may be a problem. I got the heavyweight ploypro from strap works and have had no problemn with abrasion. They are good stuff. The seatbelt polyeaster from strap works is what lots of folks go with here. It is super stuff, but the heavyweight polypro is cheaper and I think still effective. I guess I'll find out.

I have been very impressed with my harbor freight webbing. I have hung many times with it, and it is just taking it like a champ!

I've setup my hammock with the HH ropes and tree huggers I removed. I still use the rings for setup and adjustment and I gives me the convenience and ease I was looking for.

Just to clarify, when you say the abrasion was caused by strap on strap contact, do you mean two seperate straps contacting each other, or the one strap sliding against it's own length? It matters to me because I use a fixed loop 6' polyester tree strap, to which I attach the strap from the hammock. I sometimes use a biner to attach the two together, but sometimes I get lazy and just run the 1" strap coming from the hammock through the loop I sewed on the 2" fixed loop tree strap.

The reason I use two straps is that the 2" fixed loop tree strap doesn't slide on the tree when I'm setting up my hammock (I hate that,) and it makes for a quicker hang/setup for me. I cinch down the 2" strap tightly to the tree, attach a biner to the loop, and the attach the 1" webbing to the biner. But if I need to watch the 1" webbing because it wears out sliding against itself, then I may reconsider and use amsteel blue as my hammock end suspension, and go totally over to a SLS.

It was strap on strap abrasion of the 1 inch polypro where it cinched through the rings. When the straps arrived I thought it was pretty light but I didn't think it would abraid on itself. I should have known better from my volleyball days and sliding across the floor on my knees wearing polyester warm up pants. It was only the second time I setup the hammock so I never thought to check for abrasion at the rings. Before using the beeners I threaded the strap through the end loop and noticed wear.

I should be good now with my alterations and for sure I'll be checking for wear.

    From the Strapworks website

Our lightweight polypro is an excellent choice when abrasion isn't a major concern and when you want the greatest variety in colors. At 600 lb. test, it is still plenty strong.

600# test is pretty low. The heavyweight 1" Which I am using on my HH tests at 900# which even so is pretty low whn you think about it. Gack!

I have the Wally World straps and they are abraiding at the rings as well. I have a slip knot that I tie behind the rings (learned that trick the hard way) and the webbing has started to fray on the edges. I'm guessing its from the strap on strap friction?

I have ruined 2 webbing straps I got from Crazy Creek by allowing them to intersect. My son was the one who figured that I can connect the extender strap(which has a cinch buckle) to the existing straps on the crazy creek which also has a cinch buckle making a one big loop.

I going to pretend it happens to everyone and not just me.
The exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I was using the Hennessy lashing and I just go over twice when I'm adjusting and then go back and do it 2-3 more times when it's right. Well I forgot to finish off the head end. The good thing is that there was enough friction in the half completed knot that it just sort of let me down easy instead of dropping me.

I dropped on the bottom 4X4 whilst floating nicely in the new bridge.
Ummmmm. OUCH! Hope your back is OK.

    Strap On Strap

There seems to be quit a bit of Strap on Strap aggression in our major cities these days. Seems to be a real problem with the younger generation.

    Sorry just couldn't resist.
