Guide Gear 11x11 = HUGE COVERAGE

Well my 11x11 Guide Gear tarp came in and I quickly strung it up with a continuous ridgeline of mason twine and a figure 9'biner. I know mason twine can stretch but I had it on hand. This thing is HUGE. It had to be hung above my hammock to get the sides off the ground. So there may be some DIY to cut the points at the hem to make it a hex tarp so it can be tensioned well to the ground. I'll have to add center tie outs to see if it works as a square tarp better. Any insight to effectiveness of either option would be much appreciated.
Hammocking, car camping, backpacking, kayaking, and mountain biking. Getting in touch with nature is getting expensive. Good thing I can DIY!

Please get yourself some proper line before hanging this where there could be gusts. Mason line is of variable quality, unless you spend the serious $ (for mason line) and get Marshalltown, and MAYBE some others. This is a big tarp, which can catch a lot of air.

Twine should just be out of the question. The breaking strength varies greatly within spools for stuff from the bottom of yarn spinners. Masons line is made only to hold itself and indicate a straight edge, not for any load at all.

If you haven't been through this years Guide Gear tarp thread, I'd do that; at least the last few pages where discussion is about adding center reinforcements and tie outs, you also want to reinforce the current poorly sewn tie outs and waterproof the seams. Square is how most of us hang them, and they're excellent to pull the ends in like doors and shut it up. Not the great quality tarps they used to be, not the same measurements either, not light weight, but still a pretty darn good bang for your buck on a winter tarp system.
