    Hammock lay

This weekend I had a chance to use my new DIY hammock for the first time. It's DL 1.5 that is 68" wide and 10ft long. The hammock I was using before was quite a bit smaller and made from upholstery material so I don't have a great point of reference.

Anyway, I've found a fairly comfortable position in the hammock but I'm wondering if it's a odd one. I end up with my feet left of center and head on the right. There seems to be something of a natural foot box but I'm so close to the right side that my right shoulder is almost off the edge. Is this a normal position? Oh, my feet seem to end up very close to the end of the hammock and I have 3+ft above my head.

Diagonal is the most comfortable lay. That's a really wide hammock! Check out Knotty's Stretch Side modification, it'll help keep your head, top quilt and pillow in the hammock...

Many people lay feet-right... there's a subset of us who are left-sleepers!

I've heard of that mod, might consider it after I have everything else done that I want.

I'm not sure if I'm a "lefty" but my hammock seems to be, doesn't lay the same the other way.

Seems some folks like to lay the same direction. I think Shug says he prefers that. You mite try raising the foot end a tad higher to better center from top to bottom, just a thought.

Raise the foot end higher than the head end as suggested. This will keep you from sliding to the foot end.

Yes, the "diagonal lay" is the way to get flat and is what most of us use.

They should be the same either way, but mine seems completely different when I switch diagonals. Go figure.

If you want to see if it's the hammock, flip it over. That should reverse any whipping differences.
I use a sheet bend to whip my hammocks, and it usually takes 2 or 3 rewhips to get it right.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I'm rather nervous about trying to rewhip it. Over all it's pretty comfortable, I don't want to mess that up.

Hung my 10.5' hiker in my indoor stand last night while indoor hammock was drying and had to get up and lower the head end to get it right. Also a feet left/head right sleeper. Started that way and been at it over a year now and the reverse just doesn't work.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
