    Noob from western WA

    Hey,
Darkale as in I like to brew and drink Dark robust Ales.
Trying to get back into backpacking. I injured my back 20 years back and only recently got things fixed up so I don't suffer from constant sciatica. Hammocks sound like a good salutation for sleeping with a bad back and I like the low environmental impact aspect. I have watched many of Shug's videos and videos by others on YouTube. What I am not sure of is what my best gear options are for the pacific northwest. from my own research I am leaning to HH Deep Jungle, or HH A sym combined with HH supper shelter, but both of these options seem expensive to me. Can anyone tell me if either of these will provide me with the rain protection and insulation I will need Here in the Pacific Northwest?

Welcome from Arkansas, I personally like Warbonnet gear. They are made very well.

Welcome. I'm also new, but will chime in with my limited experience. I've just recently got a HH Expedition and am loving it. I haven't been in rain or really cold yet and have no experience with Warbonnet, but the HH is nice. Price helped sway me a bit toward my choice, (since it comes with the rain fly) but I'm about to get another hammock tent for my kid and I'm probably going to end up with another HH.

    Welcome Darkale,

I'm a noob over on Vancouver Island in Victoria. Last week I ordered a WBBB 1.7 Dl, with a Mamajamba tarp, and I'm very much looking forward trying it out! Brandon at Warbonnet Hammocks suggested the Mamajamba tarp for this are because he felt that our weather (wetness) needed a decent tarp. I'm not sure if that helps but maybe it does...
I did a lot of research on HF, plus other hammock sites before I settled on the Blackbird.

    Welcome from Oregon

The HH A sym is a good hammock, but if your even close to 6 ft I would opt for one of the Explorer models, the extra room is very nice. I had really good luck with the Super Shelter but if you want to go that route get a Zipper Model. The Super Shelter is a little anoying to get in and out of with the bottom entry in my Opinion.

    WELCOME FROM THE SOUTH.

down insulating product will serve you just fine - and a decent size tarp.
the wetness may be here, but the guys back east have a greater chance of
compromising their system what with the intense storms they get, as opposed
to our constant rain adding up to <.25".

i use an 8' wide tarp, 11' ridgeline- down UQ/TQ and WBBB.
    no problems with this setup.
