I'm a noob over on Vancouver Island in Victoria. Last week I ordered a WBBB 1.7 Dl, with a Mamajamba tarp, and I'm very much looking forward trying it out! Brandon at Warbonnet Hammocks suggested the Mamajamba tarp for this are because he felt that our weather (wetness) needed a decent tarp. I'm not sure if that helps but maybe it does...
I did a lot of research on HF, plus other hammock sites before I settled on the Blackbird.

I had already figured on upgrading tarp size as well as carrying a small to medium extra tarp for extending dry camp space.

The HH A sym is a good hammock, but if your even close to 6 ft I would opt for one of the Explorer models, the extra room is very nice. I had really good luck with the Super Shelter but if you want to go that route get a Zipper Model. The Super Shelter is a little anoying to get in and out of with the bottom entry in my Opinion.
    --------------------

This is good to know. I am 5'10" and 140lbs. I had the impression from HH web site that super shelter worked best with bottom entry which I do not think I want. I got this impression from the Deep Jungle description which states"If you are looking for a 4 season insulation system, we reccommend the SuperShelter 4 Season System with a single bottomed hammock as a better choice." I could see know reason for the SS not to work with deep jungle other then Deep Jungle is zip only. looking mostly at Hennesy because I want to get as close to a trail ready system out of the bag as I can get and I want to get it this month.
what temp range do you think the explorer would be comfortable with 20* mummy bag and the DoubleBubble pad Hennesy sells? I also have a 30"x72"x1/2" foam pad left over from physical thearopy days but I was hope'n for a lighter pad if hanging instead of tenting. I do not plan on winter camping.

down insulating product will serve you just fine - and a decent size tarp.
the wetness may be here, but the guys back east have a greater chance of
compromising their system what with the intense storms they get, as opposed
to our constant rain adding up to <.25".

i use an 8' wide tarp, 11' ridgeline- down UQ/TQ and WBBB.
    no problems with this setup.

My Mummy is synthetic not down. Planned on upgrading tarp size and packing extra tarp for some dry camp space.

    Welcome from Florida.
I agree with a larger size tarp for constantly wet conditions. It's not that you can't rig up a small tarp that can keep you dry while sleeping during a rain shower. It's just that you can't stretch out and "live" under a small tarp which is nice when it's always wet.

I'm a big fan of down insulation but, I'm not in the PNW, so you know better than I if synthetic insulation is more appropriate.

There are many different hammocks that will give your back a great nights sleep. You can shop around a bit more. Spend time reading the forums here. They are both informative and entertaining. It seems hammockers know how to have fun in everything they do.

You need to attend a group hang so you can check out a bunch of different setups and ask the people what they like or do not like about them.

I'd love to attend a group hang but I want to find and get a system ASAP so I can spend a couple weekends in San Juan Islands getting used to it and get into mountains soon as I can.

I have a cousin who inherited a cabin on cypress Island. there is a lake on the island we used to swim fish and camp at. Seems a good place to test things out this time of the year as temperatures will not get any cooler then they are here at home and a warm cabin is just a couple miles away.
