    Post Cheap Tarp Skins

    Here is a set of snake skins I made from a pair of tights I bought on clearance for $3. The tights work well as they are already preformed and minimal sewing is required. I would not use panty hose as the material is to thin. I did all sewing by hand as the tights kept getting jammed in the thread injector. Maybe it was user error. Sorry for the bad photos.

    Turn the tights inside out and cut out the crotch and along the seams.

    Sew the cut seams on the two individual legs and turn right side out.

    I cut a small slit in the foot sections so I could pass the tarp ridge line through and sewed around it so it wouldn't unravel.

    Guys..... the tights on the shower rod in the bathroom are off limits and verbotten! Under no circumstances attempt to abscond with those. Take only the ones already in the trash can.
    I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Ingenious idea Maverick!! I was just thinking this morning how I was in need of tarp skins, and how much I didn't want to pay for them!! I will be sure to stop by the local Marshall's and pick up a pair of ultra cheap tights, I just hope that I dont have to go thru the check out with women's tights hehehehe

    works for awhile....male Velcro is poison to them, though

    From experience, what you've done is good for several uses, and well worth the short amount of time it takes to convert inexpensive ($1-$2) panty hose.

    Simply genius! One of these days I will pull my head out of a dark place and come up with a brilliantly simple solution like this. Nice work.

    This is such a great idea! I'm definitely going to make some of these as soon as I come across some cheapo tights.

    If you wanted to get even fancier, I'm wondering if you could sew a sturdy ring around the open end of the skins, something like a loose zip tie or maybe even the elastic from the waist band? (Similar to the ring around the Hennessy snake skins that makes it easier to pull over the fabric.)

    Or maybe I'm just complicating things, I tend to do that sometimes. :}
