Nest needs help on the trail

Just got off the phone with Nest. Seems he had a little unwanted excitement today. He was hiking outside of Cannonsville NY when he heard gun shots. The trail dept winding closer to the shots, and then they stopped. He kept walking and all of the sudden he had a bullet whiz over his head. He has a new "part" in his curly hair.

He jumped behind a rock wall, not knowing if he was shot at intentionally or not. After circling around, the realized that a couple of not so bright people were taking target practice at a peice of plywood that the bullets were going straight through. He got into town and called the police (took several tries because he had crossed state line). He just wanted to make sure they were stopped before more hikers came through.

    He's also glad he's 5'11" and not 6'!

So, here's the help he wants. Anyone have enough Dynema or Anema rope to make him a bullet proof hammock?? At least he has a sense of humor about it!

He said maybe Headchange4U has some of that kevlar he uses to make stuff sacks.

Needless to say - he's staying in town tonight!

Once again I see that we don't have the market completely cornered on imbecilic red necks, just mostly cornered.

It would have been fun to have smeared a pack of ketchup in a well placed spot, say around the abdomen, and then staggered out on the idiots, clutching your "gunshot wound", said something like, " You've ....shot.....me...I .....have ......5 ....kids...UGHGHG!", and then collapse in a heap.

They would either run away and live the rest of their life thinking they killed a family man because of stupidly playing around with a gun OR they would rush over in a panic, at which point he could have jumped to his feet, hopefully scaring them so badly they need to invest in some new underwear, and say, "Let's discuss gun safety..."

    But that's just me.

That would be funny, but I'd be afraid the guys would more likely fire a few more shots to make sure I'd really be good and dead...

He kind of felt the same way, not knowing what their intentions were to begin with.

I couldn't help but laugh when he asked me to get on HF and see if anyone would make him a kevlar hammock!

Sounds like a story to me. I can honestly say I was never shot at on the trail. I saw more hunters and heard more gun shots that I have ever seen, but none of them were shooting at me.

I have to laugh when people say not to worry they know the trail is there or you'll be ok. Those people have never been in the backwoods of VA, TN, or NC during deer rifle season.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
