You think this will work?

While I am quite content to sit on the sidelines while y'all get this all worked out, I just can't help throwing in occasionally, sorry...so on this set up might there be some concern about twisting? I like the triangle set up better, maybe?

Perfect! I will take 2! Please.

Do you think this could function as a toggle of sorts? Maybe keeping an amsteel piece on the hammock that would just loop over this piece? When loaded, the triangle would keep the loop, or loops spread out from tension? Easily interchangeable between hammocks and for packing?

My ENO Double Nest has them @ 4" and is much better; the ENO is 9'-6".
I ended up using 7/16" fiberglass tubing; I originally bought it for tent pole repairs. I used a coupler (the metal part) as a way to adjust the length of the spreader without needing to cut a whole new one each time; this way I could just do one end.

I will make a solid spreader now that I have the lengths I want.
I used the newhanger method and attached my whoopie slings via girth hitch.
I have no idea how much they weigh...

    The mini-spreader.

    Loaded.

    The end loops.

I like 'em, they work great.
Sweet look'n rig there Rat, and good to see you around again, seems like you were MIA for a while there. Welcome back.

At present, I only have the one. OutdoorJunkie asked if it could be done with a whoopie sling and I had a down day at work and just came up with this. I did it to see if it was possible. The adjustable loop on this one is only 19".

However, if you are serious, I will make up another one and send them to you. All I ask is for 25' of 7/64" Amsteel. You have to understand that this was a prototype and I make no claims as to how pretty or how well they will hold.

The only problem that I could see with that idea is the tension on the hammock channel. Without tension on the ends of the channel, the hammock will have a tendency to bunch in the middle. If you can figure out how to keep tension on the hammock channel, it would work fine in that fashion.

Okay well the holes did not work at all lol, but I found an alternative. I cut a 3 3/4 inch piece of 3/4 inch PVC and made a 1/2 in bevel. Worked great. Here are pics of It loaded on the ladys hammy.

So if the piece that goes thru the channel is the ideal length to maintain tension(which likely would be shorter than the spreader bar)and it has a loop on each end, you would put one loop over and slide to the middle of the spreader bar giving you enough slack to get the other loop on, then spread them both out and they would stay spread by the tension on the triangle created in the suspension? Not sure if that makes sense?
