You put the eye thru/in the ring, then open the eye and push each side of the eye around the ring... its hard to describe. Then you do it again with the other eye coming in from the other side so they're semi-symmetrical. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

If you look closely at the first two pictures on page 1 you can see, not really how to do it, but that they are equal but opposite in the way they go thru both rings.
    Good luck,

The eye in the Amsteel must be larger than the ring!

Most things are simple, once one knows the trick. ;-)

Interesting discussion. Now I have something else to try when I can get back in a hammock!

Looks like a brilliant mod to my Frontline.

One question though - It seems that the fabric itself would still tend to work its way towards the center point and a starting spread of 6" may end up at something less. Has this happened to any noticeable extent? If so, should the fabric be somehow fixed in place so it can't slide inwards on the amsteel?

    There is always someone sillier.

    Red,

What was the width of hammock material you initially tried this with? I have a 90" wide blank I was thinking about experimenting with and was curious as to how much wider the spreader might need to be, and whether it is a linear correlation.

I am not positive on the width but probably around 60", finished I'd WAG it around 58". A wider bar might be better with 90"but I don't know how much, maybe 8" hole to hole?
    Good luck,

I haven't had to "pin" the fabric to the corners of the suspension yet, it seems to not gather too badly in the center. I think the secret may beto get the suspension fairly tight on the under side of the bar, where it passes thru the hammock channel. Not positive tho'.
    Good luck,
