Cuben Ghost hammock - 3.96 ounces!

My latest project completed around 0400 this morning:

0.75 cuben fiber from Lawson (I got it on sale hence the color) with a nanoseeum "curtain" for the footbox area thanks to some ideas from UKHammocks. It hasn't been on the trail yet, but so far it feels very comfortable.

The base weight of the hammock is 112.3 grams or 3.96 ounces, add in my minimalist suspension and it goes up to 171.7 grams or 6.06 ounces. I was hoping that I could get it below 6 ounces just for the bragging rights, but it ended up at 1.95 grams more than I wanted it to be LOL.

Well my original ghosts all had a footbox are to influence the lay of the bed of the hammock. This model I was just going to have a draw cord on top to do that, similar to the UKHammock Woodsman X. After a conversation with Mat from UKHammock I decided to add that little bit of material to help keep stuff from flopping out the end. In the "front" pic there is no load on the pull line so it looks floppy and doesn't do much at that point.

This test this morning was to make sure I wasn't going to do a butt landing. In the "back" pic there is a little tension there, but not enough to change the lay of the bed. I'm still waiting on making sure all the bonds are 100% set before adding any tension to those points so there won't be any peeling. I did get a little peel on the bond that holds the curtain to the hem when I was playing this morning with it. The only sewn parts of this hammock were where I sewed ladders for putting an underquilt on using Dutch quilt hooks and the "curtain" all these points were sewn to 1" strips of cuben fiber which was then bonded to the body of the hammock. The body is all bonded and there are no holes in it anywhere from sewing because nothing is directly sewn to that body.

I'll be going this route soon .. my only concern is how the Cuben feels next to skin .. would it cause you to sweat more ?? get sticky when you try to move ??

Probably. Sort of like sleeping on a garbage bag. However this isn't a real issue for me since I normally sleep on a pad anyway. I only use underquilts to augment my sleeping range.

When I first contemplated cuben hammocks a couple years back I was most worried about abrasion damage, but came to the conclusion that most likely it wouldn't be an issue since I almost always sleep on a pad. People that favor sleeping on fabric may not like cuben for sleeping.
