I could. I could have gone with toggles and straps instead of Dutch WS Hooks. I could make a set just to say I did it, but then I would probably modify it back for real use. I guess I'm really not that concerned with getting it below 6 ounces LOL.
Sounds like a good bragging point right there. I'll stick to that.
The suspension is dynaglide UCRs and the ridge line is 1.75mm zing it. If I did omit the ridge line it would be under 6 ounces.
The idea came from UKHammocks and their Wilderness X Hammock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6mjv0wU9fM
I think the bonding method is the way to go.
I had a cuben hammock made for me anout 2 years ago and it was stitched at the gather. I am 6ft1 and 210. I got about 4 nights out of it before I got dropped to the ground, because the stitching "popped" and cut the gathers right in half.
The hammock came in at about 6 ounces, with whoopies.
I miss my 4.8Lb base weight as a ground dweller...But I sure DON'T MISS the ground.
What are you using for huggers and what length are they?

Next thing you know, the Sarge will be making a dyneema fiber net hammock down to below 2oz...
I can see it now... so ultralight, he's gluing rubber soles to his feet, running through the wood naked just to get down to a 2lb base weight...
very cool hammock! Thanks for pushing the state of the art forward...

Straps are made from a ratchet strap rated at something like 900 pounds burst strength, 300 working strength. They are 53" long each and are mounted to my UCRS which are also up to 60" long each and end at Dutchware Whoopie Hooks. That pair have been around for a few hammocks.
I've never done a weight comparison but I'm wondering if you can use mule tape for huggers and save some grams that way?

Someone on HF had some mule tape a while back. I don't know how well it worked. I tried some old engineers tape from the Army, but it tended to saw through itself.
Something else to point out about cuben, though it may be lighter than my fabric versions, it does not pack down nearly as well. If space in your pack is more important than weight, you may not want to use cuben for a hammock.
Wow! Nice work. I was inspired by your other thread on the 1.1 nylon Ghost Hammock and made my own. I'll have to post a pic in that other thread. Way to keep innovating!
