    technique question

Im trying to make a variety of stuffsacks/compression bags but I cant get my mind on a good way to sew a flat seam (like on a pant leg) on the vertical seam when the material its such a small diameter. I know there is something Im missing and am looking forward to any hints anyone can share. thanks in advance _BO'B

Dang , I was kinda hoping to avoid the bunching at the foot but I guess there is no real way around that if you want a flat seam. No biggie I guess, smaller bags will just have to get a heat treat on the inside raw edge.

I cut the nylon with a wood burning knife yesterday. It worked great. Cut very very easy and heat treated the seam at the same time. You can get them at Walmart for $10

A french seam or a rolled seam will enclose the edges. You don't really need to sew the seam down flat to make the bag usable. A flat felled seam on a stuff sack is overkill in my opinion. They are used on jean legs to avoid chaffing. Not really for strength. Chaffing is a non-issue when it comes to stuff sacks.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

What Rev said, overkill. but hey hike your stuff sack..or something like that.

This lady does it quick and easy and I follow her technique for the most part.

Good link, gargoyle! Off to the inject cave!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Personally, I like the way Redoleary does stuff sacks here, although doing a flat felled seam on a small stuff sack can be a challenge. I don't use a grommet for the cinch cord exit though.
