Jarbridge UQ advice

I just got the Jarbridge (my first UQ) last week and took it on a 4 day camping trip. So far, I love it. Seems to be well made and packs down pretty well.

The only thing I had problems with was how it fit to my hammock. I have a Grand Trunk SBP and am attaching it to my suspension (whoopies) with the carabiner that came on the shock chord. When doing that, it is strung really tight to where I can't even adjust it.

What I ended up doing was adding some parachord to both ends so that I could have room to adjust it towards my head end. This seemed to work, but I feel like I am not doing this right.

Anyone have any advice for my setup?

Where on the whoopies are you attaching the caribiner? You should be attatching them right on, or next to where they attach to the ends of your hammock.

Are you loosening the cord locks on the corners of the underquilt? I own the Jarbidge and at the loosest setting there should be no way that it's too tight on you. Normally you have to tighten it up quit a bit before it gets snug.

It's attached where the whoopies are going through the channel on the hammock and the shock chord is all the way loosened. It would reach doing it without parachord, but I had very little room for adjustment.

I wish I took a couple of pics to show it....maybe I can get it set up today or tomorrow and snap some pics.

I have the summer Jarbridge River and have used it with a Skeeter Beeter Pro for, hum let me see, almost 30 nights (that is half of my hanging experience). I have found them a perfect match.

First, keep in mind that the Jarbridge River is slightly tapered (trapezoidal), so it has a distinct head end and a foot end. I hang mine with S-biners, and I clip the biners directly to the suspension (whoopies) right at the gathered end of the hammock. On top of that, know that the Skeeter Beeter Pro is just about the longest hammock out there. When you first hook up the UQ, it will lift the hammock up, making it look like it is too tight. Ignore your instincts here. It may well be fine.

The first few times I used this UQ, I may not have understood which end was which, and it may have been backwards, and it slipped off my torso fairly readily. Since then, I bought 2 different colors of S-biners, green and tan; I use the tan for the head end and the green for the foot. This way I can always know which end is which. I also stuff my foot end in the bag first, so I always know the head is where I first attach the S-biner, then I pull out the rest of the UQ to the foot and attach.

I looked through my pictures, and amazingly I found not a single pic of the Jarbridge River on the SBP. The only shots I have of it are on my new Blackbird from a week ago, and that one has the UQ pulled to one side, so it is of no value. I definately need to rectify this!

bamaman08, I too just recently got my Jarbridge UQ and think I understand what you are saying. Like you the UQ attaches to whoopie sling at the gathered ends and the issue is that it can not be adjusted along the length of the of the hammock to position under you, you must position yourself over the UQ.

Overall I am happy with the UQ as my wife and I took ours down in the 40's on our first outing with them. Just would like to be able to position it to me.

The shock cords that we put on the ends are intended to fit most hammocks. For some of the longer hammocks out there (and depending on how much sag you have in your hammock) you might need a bit longer cords. Like Buffalo Skipper mentioned the Skeeter Beeter Pro is one of the longer hammocks out there. The Cords are easy to change out and if you need longer ones just PM or email me and we will send out as long of cords as you like, Though again like B.S. you may or may not need longer ones to handle the length.

Tapered? I've never noticed a taper on either of my Jarbridges. Maybe Paul will chime in, but I'm not sure about that.

Not a huge taper, but when I measured, I came up about 1.5" narrower on one end. I would like to hear Paul's take as well....
